McDermott International has landed a major engineering contract for work on a green hydrogen import terminal in the Netherlands.
The US player - together with its storage business CB&I has won a front-end engineering and design contract from Gunvor Petroleum covering a green hydogen terminal in Rotterdam.
According to the operator, the import terminal is expected to provide green hydrogen to the Netherlands in 2026.
The project is part of the Gunvor Group subsidiary's programme to transform its Rotterdam facility into a green energy hub.
Under the contract scope, CB&I will carry out FEED studies on an ammonia tank and equipment located near this facility, sometimes known in construction jargon as work 'inside battery limits'.
McDermott - having previously carried out feasibility studies on the facility for Gunvor - will provide support through FEED activities for the interconnecting pipeline, tie-ins and other 'outside battery limits scope.
As part of the FEED, a project execution cost estimate will be developed as basis for a potential conversion into an engineering, construction and procurement contract for the implementation phase.
"This project represents a vital contribution to ensuring a reliable logistical chain for the growing green hydrogen market and ultimately meeting the Netherlands 2030 climate goals," said Cesar Canals, senior vice president of CB&I.
Work on the project will be executed from McDermott's office in The Hague, the Netherlands and CB&I's office in Plainfield, Illinois.
